About the Opportunity

Fairtrade ANZ has an ambitious new five-year strategy to transform a critical mass of the population to rethink the products they buy and consume and to proactively support and advocate for the producers behind these products. The strategy places an emphasis on significantly increasing consumer demand by promoting awareness, engagement, sales and advocacy of Fairtrade brand, products and ideology.

As a result of this, Fairtrade ANZ now has an exciting, newly created opportunity for a passionate and driven Assistant Accountant to join their team, based in Melbourne, VIC or Auckland, NZ on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Executive Manager - Operations & Finance, you will be responsible for the accounting functions, from accounts payable and accounts receivable, through to monthly reconciliation and management accounting reports for Fairtrade ANZ.  Analysis of Balance Sheets, Income and Expenditure, and financial trends will allow you to support organisational outcomes and growth, and to develop your accounting career.

Your day-to-day duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Managing all transactional responsibilities for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes;
  • Managing banking and payroll processes across Australia and New Zealand;
  • Assisting with planning and preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts;
  • Managing month end processing of General Ledger accounts, including reconciliation and journal preparation; and
  • Preparation of monthly management account reporting and quarterly Board financial reporting, including analysis of reports and reporting on variances to Budget.

Occasional travel between the Melbourne and Auckland offices may be required in this role. To view the full position description, please click here. 

Do you have what it takes to join the Fairtrade team?

To be considered for this position, you must have tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar and be either CA/CPA qualified, or be currently working towards one of these qualifications.

You will have previous experience working in a hands-on financial accounting and reporting role, with strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel. Any experience using Xero accounting software will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory. 

You will be a team player, with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to adapt and use initiative as required, for optimal outcomes. 

Importantly, Fairtrade ANZ is looking for candidates with a genuine interest in social justice and an alignment with the values and beliefs of the organisation in relation to social justice causes.
