About the role

Centacare now has a flexible part-time (0.8FTE) role for a Family Dispute Resolution Counsellor to join their Family and Community Service team in Mildura, VIC.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Family Relationship Services, this is a key role that will see you promote the independence and healthy development of families, couples, and individuals through the provision of quality counselling and program delivery. 

In addition, you will also assist separating parents to reach agreements of parenting arrangements which are in the best interests of the children.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing information, advice, and referral to individuals/couples seeking support with relationships and separation issues and assisting in the resolution of these issues;
  • Delivering Family Dispute Resolution as per the provisions and regulations outlined in the Family Law Act;
  • Ensuring parents are aware of children's needs in relation to age-appropriate emotions, physical and social needs, and ensuring the child's best interests are promoted;
  • Delivering sessions that provide information and education to separating parents;
  • Maintaining client record and data as required (client files must reflect up to date assessments at all times);
  • Participating in a team, program, and organisational meetings as required; and
  • Maintaining a high level of professional standards. 

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have demonstrated experience as a Counsellor, Social Worker, Psychologist, or Family Therapist and hold a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Certificate.  Candidates who are close to completion of a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Certificate are still encouraged to apply.

You will also need to have demonstrated experience working within a welfare environment with families, individuals, couples, and children. Your ability to deliver child centred, family focussed and relationship counselling with the use of industry accredited frameworks will be key to your success in this role. 

As will your commitment to providing excellent service delivery to those most vulnerable in the community.

In addition, it is key that you are able to provide counselling that is civilised, amicable, with a focus on the best interests of the children.

Some of the more challenging aspects of this role include working with a variety of cultures, and people from diverse backgrounds. As an empathetic, resilient, and dedicated individual, you will be able to find effective solutions to provide counselling and advice to individuals and families from all walks of life. As such, strong communication and interpersonal skills are key.

Candidates will also need strong administrative and reporting skills including experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and data entry programs. 

Please note: Candidates will need to undergo a criminal history and working with children check and hold a current unencumbered driver's licence.
