Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation (Ngurratjuta) is a commercial, privately funded, Aboriginal Corporation based in Alice Springs, providing accounting, HR, governance support and other essential business services to Central Australia and beyond.

Ngurratjuta was incorporated in 1985 under the Aboriginal Corporations Act of 1976 and is an association of all those communities deemed to have been 'affected' by the oil and gas mining operations at Mereenie and Palm Valley. The overall aim of the organisation is to improve the health and economic wellbeing of the Aboriginal Communities through the process.

About the Opportunity

Ngurratjuta now has a unique opportunity for an Accountant/Tax Agent to join their team in Alice Springs on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this is a unique role that will see you delivering high-level financial outcomes for Ngurratjuta and its community clients. Your time will be split between general accounting and bookkeeping services and acting as a tax agent for individuals and small businesses in the local community, including the preparation and lodgement of BAS and IAS and completion of annual Fringe Benefits Tax Returns.

Your day-to-day duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Provision of general accounting services including posting of journals to the general ledger and provision of payroll services;
  • Preparation of budgets and basic financial reports and assisting in all areas of general financial reporting;
  • Personal to corporate tax preparation and planning including audit preparation, completion of surveys, returns and acquittals; and
  • Relieving other staff members in the Ngurratjuta accounting services who may be sick or on annual leave.

About You

To be considered for this position you must have proven experience working as a tax agent, with a solid understanding of FBT returns, depreciation and personal to corporate tax preparation. In addition, you be CA or CPA qualified.

Ngurratjuta is looking for an accounting 'all-rounder' with good general knowledge of accounting principles and practices including bank reconciliations, budgeting principles and auditing procedures. You will have strong attention to detail, be a willing team player and have experience in MYOB and the Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of Hand iSOFT will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory.

Importantly, you will be comfortable visiting people out in the communities to help them with their tax requirements. You will be an engaging communicator with the ability to explain complex tax and accounting principles to a range of stakeholders, some with low literacy and numeracy skills, in a way that is sensitive and respectful at all times. 

Please note: A current Driver's License is a requirement of this position. At times you will be required to travel in a small (6 seater) plane to visit surrounding communities.
