ASSET RELIABILITY AND MAINTENANCE MANAGER – 3 months secondment

 

About the Role
Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is a leading organisation responsible for the operation and management of bulk handling assets, including wharves, ship loaders, conveyors, and complex control systems. The Asset Management (AM) team plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliable operation of these critical assets. Due to an internal temporary secondment, we have a development opportunity for an Acting Asset Reliability & Maintenance Manager to lead our team in delivering optimal asset performance, ensuring reliability, and maintaining compliance with industry standards.


As the Acting Asset Reliability & Maintenance Manager, you will be accountable for delivering asset availability and reliability in alignment with agreed performance targets. You will manage asset maintenance and reliability systems, ensuring GPC’s assets perform at their best throughout their lifecycle. You will lead a high-performing team, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to the department's broader business goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor the Reliability & Maintenance section, ensuring alignment with GPC’s values, fostering a positive and safe work environment, and building a culture of high performance.
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Leadership: Foster a zero-incident safety culture, ensuring compliance with all HSE management requirements.
  • Asset Reliability & Maintenance Strategy: Manage “whole of life” asset strategies, ensuring systems and practices align with business objectives and regulatory compliance.
  • Business Planning & Budget Management: Develop and manage the section’s annual business plan, ensuring effective resource allocation, budget management, and the meeting of performance targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to identify opportunities for improvement in asset maintenance, reliability, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., government, industry peers, consultants) to ensure smooth operations and compliance with standards.

 

Key Qualifications & Skills

Highly Desirable:

    • Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), Graduate Diploma/Master of Maintenance Management (or similar).
    • Strong leadership experience in asset reliability and maintenance, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
    • Extensive experience in industrial maintenance environments, with expertise in both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
    • Knowledge of performance, reliability, and condition monitoring techniques.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, engineering applications (e.g., CAD, FEA, CFD), and maintenance management systems.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

Desirable:

    • Experience in project management, business improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma), and workplace industrial relations.
    • Formal qualifications in Root Cause Analysis techniques and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Proven experience managing large-scale teams in complex environments.
