Field Auditor - Horticulture NSW

Job No: AUS00073
Location: Sydney

  • Do you have on-farm and production systems/food processing horticulture experience?
  • Do you hold a Lead Food Safety Auditor qualification?
  • External audit role available in NSW working remotely with the head office in Brisbane.
  • Attractive salary, tool-of-trade vehicle, and many more benefits!

How you'll make a difference

Our business remains a leading force in auditing services for the red meat industry and the broader agricultural sector, including horticulture, poultry & eggs, food safety, animal welfare and social, ethical and governance compliance.

As a Field Auditor (Horticulture Food Safety), you will play a crucial role in AUS-MEAT’s mission to deliver effective, comprehensive, and quality-focused audits.  These audits take place on-farm or at fresh produce packing/pre-processing plants, ensuring our clients meet their specific food safety quality standards.

We are committed to setting our Field Auditors up for success.  You will receive support from our highly experienced and industry-respected team members, along with necessary resources and training to excel in your role.

Your opportunity

This role is a WFH/mobile role where you can work from home and attend client sites (servicing the state of New South Wales).

This role involves considerable travel, including some interstate trips for training, conferences and rotation management.  Typically expect 4 out of 5 or 8 out of 10 days at audit sites.

To begin with, the role will audit the Freshcare/HARPS standards with potential expansion to audit Safe Quality Foods

Every day will bring new and exciting challenges on the job while you:

  • Collaborate with head office technical, shared services and scheduling teams as a key contributor and representative of the business within the industry.
  • Conduct audit processes in line with program standards and Quality Management expectations.
  • Provide effective and timely transmission of complete and finalised audit reports.
  • Engage with the industry and community as a role model and representative of AUS-MEAT.
  • Escalate issues or queries that cannot be addressed directly to the relevant Program Manager or Technical Advisor.
  • Liaise with the Scheduling Team to ensure optimal efficiency of scheduling and travel plans.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, in line with the Employee Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, particularly Fatigue Management.

A little about you

You will be passionate about food safety and have strong knowledge and experience within the horticulture industry and food safety compliance practices.

It is essential you have minimum two years’ experience on-farm (such as chemical use, water use, planting and harvesting) and with horticulture production systems or food processing (plants or packing/pre-processing of plant products).  You need to be able to understand the food safety processes from picking to packing.

Our ideal candidate will also have experience in quality assurance of food safety functions (QA and/or environmental/sustainability management systems for environmental auditing).

It is also necessary for you to have a post-secondary qualification (bachelor’s degree is highly regarded) relevant to the horticulture industry, such as Food Science or another related field.

You are required to hold, or are prepared to gain the following certifications:

  • Lead Food Safety Auditor
  • External HACCP (principles & applications)
  • Chemical User
  • Exemplar Global registered

If you don't have these, and you're the right person for the role, we will help you get these certificates.

Additionally, having a Lead Auditor qualification in Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) or experience in a winery/brewery is advantageous.

You need to be self-motivated, organized, and able to work autonomously with remote technical assistance.  Proficiency in digital platforms and portals is essential.  Clear, professional writing skills and comfort with typing reports or using electronic forms are required.

Strong interpersonal communication skills are necessary to build professional relationships and provide developmental feedback.  A desire for continual learning and effective time management are also important.
