About the role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a hardworking, motivated individual to fill the role of Heavy Vehicle Mechanic in Alpha. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing technical and mechanical tasks on a variety of heavy plant, light vehicles and Council equipment, whilst ensuring all work complies with Council and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform timely technical and practical diesel fitting and mechanical tasks on heavy plant and vehicles, ensuring high quality-outcomes.
- Conduct timely maintenance and repairs on petrol vehicles, small engines and Council equipment in alignment with Council specifications and policies, including; services, inspections, fault diagnosis, repair and overhaul.
- Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment and conduct all work practices in compliance with legislative and Council requirements.
- Ensure all maintenance and repair tasks are completed in compliance with council policies, procedures, and legislative obligations.
- Mentor and support apprentices, offering trade guidance and assistance as part of the workshop team.
Location: This position is based in Alpha with regional work and travel as required.
Wage: Minimum Trade Level C7 - $72, 775.56 per annum + Superannuation up to 12% and relevant approved allowances.
Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.
Hours of work: 76 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off every fortnight.
Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

What we are looking for:
- Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or similar. Post trade qualifications are highly regarded.
- Current Queensland class 'C', 'HR' Driver Licence preferred.
- Current General Construction Induction Card (White/ Blue Card) or equivalent.
- Ability to successfully pass any required Verification of Competency (VOC) testing.
- Proven experience in diesel fitting, mechanical repairs, and maintenance of heavy plant and vehicles.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality customer service to a diverse range of customers and stakeholders, including successful interactions with consultants and contractors.

The Barcaldine Region is located in central west Queensland approximately 440km west of Rockhampton, covering an area of 53,677 sq km with an estimated population of 2,900 people.
The Regional Council is made up of the former Shires of Aramac, Barcaldine and Jericho including the towns of Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra.
The region is one of the largest cattle producing regions in Central Western Queensland and also has a productive sheep, wool and macropod harvesting industry with the prospect of mining.
