About the role:
Barcaldine Regional Council is seeking a proactive and experienced leader to coordinate our three Works Teams in Barcaldine. As the Senior Works Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing works operations and providing leadership, support, and mentorship to the three Works Supervisors (Construction, Maintenance, and Town Services). You will play a key role in ensuring the effective performance of the works teams, delivering important civil construction projects, and maintaining and enhancing the appearance and cleanliness of Barcaldine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor standard of completed projects to ensure high quality performance within the day-to-day operations.
- Assist with recruitment and training of new staff.
- Contribute to the development of contracts, liaising with subcontractors and vendors and performing works specific administrative tasks.
- Monitor project processes, staffing and equipment allocation/availability to ensure projects run at the desired standard.
- Perform regular equipment, material, and routine site inspections.
- Prepare monthly reports for the Director of Works.
- Ensure the district works teams work together to deliver quality work to strict deadlines.
- Proactively contribute to the development of continuous improvement initiatives within the wider works department.
- Provide decision making, coaching, and mentoring, whilst developing team members technical and team skills, as well as managing conflict that may occur across teams.
- Initiate cost reporting of all jobs on a fortnightly basis, revising and implementing changes as required.
- Initiate regular internal audits in collaboration with the Plant, Fleet, and Workshops team in relation to plant availability/utilisation.

Location: Barcaldine, with regional work as required.
Classification Level: Level 7.3 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award - State 2017 and Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.
Wage: Minimum base salary of $106,379.66 per annum + 12% Superannuation contribution and additional relevant benefits.
Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.
Hours of work: 76 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off (RDO) every fortnight.
Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

What we are looking for:
- Certificate IV in Civil Construction and/or Diploma of Project Management (desirable).
- Current Queensland class 'C' Driver Licence.
- Current General Construction Induction Card (White/Blue Card) or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a senior supervisor role within a Queensland Council, of equivalent experience in the civil construction industry.
- Proven ability to manage projects including planning and reporting whilst promoting teamwork.
- Ability to assess priorities and manage competing deadlines both independently and as the team supervisor.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead others in the completion of a schedule, budget guidelines, and customer requirements.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal).
- Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively participate in hazardous manual tasks and labouring activities such as lifting, digging, shovelling and the use of powered tools.
- Computer proficient, with experience in MS Excel, Project, and Word.
- Demonstrated knowledge or ability to gain an understanding of WHS, Quality Assurance and Environmental procedures.
