Position Details

Location: This position is based in Alpha with regional work and travel as required.

Classification Level: Minimum Trade Level 3 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream C) Award – State 2017 and the Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025. 

Wage: (Salary range negotiable depending on skills and experience) $73,747.96 - $90,000.00 + benefits package and superannuation up to 12%

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.

Hours of Work: 76 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off (RDO) every fortnight.

Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

The Role

As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for carrying out construction, installation, maintenance and repair works across Council facilities and infrastructure throughout the Barcaldine region. You will undertake a range of carpentry tasks, building inspections and repairs while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant building codes and Australian Standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and practical tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship, works well as part of a team and is looking to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of essential community facilities and infrastructure.

To Be Successful You Will Have:

  • Certificate III in Carpentry
  • Minimum 3 years’ post-apprenticeship experience in the building industry
  • Current Queensland Class ‘C’ Driver Licence
  • General Safety Induction Card (White/Blue Card) or equivalent
  • Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council’s satisfaction
  • Completion of a Pre-Employment Medical Examination to Council’s satisfaction
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience using carpentry power tools and equipment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and complete tasks safely and efficiently

Highly regarded, but not required:

  • Forklift certification
  • Asbestos awareness training
