About the role

The Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) is looking for motivated individuals to support the delivery of art gallery experiences for our visitors across exhibitions, events and front of house. Several roles are available. 

Position Summary

Being a Gallery Assistant at BRAG is a hands-on and ever-changing role. Assistants are asked to support and assist with a variety of elements that are important to visitor experience, including:

  • Front of house operations including customer service, retail sales, recording keeping, administrative tasks and supervision of volunteers as required.
  • Gallery operations including supervision of exhibitions, understanding of security and emergency procedures and operation of AV and technical equipment.
  • Events coordination including assisting with gallery functions, responsible service of alcohol and set up and pack down.

Front of House duties including - welcoming visitors, sales through BRAG's shop;  preparing events and assisting with workshops including - room set up/break down and AV, supervision and co-facilitation; digitising our archive and general gallery maintenance. During the change-over of exhibitions Assistants may help the team to de-install and install artworks under direction. This is a great entry to understanding how art galleries operate. Must be available to work week days, weekends and school holidays.

Essential Criteria 

  • Experience in administration, customer service and retail sales
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Understanding of WHS (Work Health & Safety) principles
  • Ability to work flexible hours including after hours and weekends
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check
  • A current Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate
