About the Role

Council’s Civil Asset Planning team are looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer who will be responsible for the provision of efficient and effective delivery of traffic and transportation related engineering services for Baw Baw Shire Council and the broader community.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Managing and leading the strategic direction of the team in traffic and road safety matters;
  • Providing senior direction and guidance to the Traffic Engineer, Student Engineer and Technical Officers within the team;
  • Undertaking investigations and developing solutions in response to Council and public requests;
  • Expertise in road safety audits, traffic impact statements, traffic engineering investigations, local area traffic management plans, heavy vehicle route assessments and road transport planning;
  • Providing professional and technical advice, guidance and recommendations on traffic, transport and parking matters or other proposals with traffic and transportation implications to the organisation and external customers or authorities/agencies;
  • Participating in the development of traffic management schemes, intersection designs, public transport improvements and bicycle and truck route schemes;
  • Development of funding applications for a range of infrastructure works, strategies, studies, and analysis;
  • Developing treatments to address identified needs and opportunities; and
  • Preparing conceptual designs or detailed designs for traffic engineering works.

The Senior Traffic Engineer is responsible for managing the provision of Council’s traffic and road safety related assets and services.

This role will require the successful candidate to undertake investigations and provide engineering technical advice and professional and efficient services to Council, internal service units and the community on a wide range of infrastructure related matters such as traffic, parking, DDA compliance and other associated infrastructure works.

The Senior Traffic Engineer will be involved in the development and implementation of policy, strategy and plans to support the provision of Council’s road safety and traffic management services, road safety functions and related infrastructure. This will include undertaking planning of infrastructure projects, including investigating cost-effective technical solutions, cost estimates for the works, construction considerations, preparing preliminary designs and delivering assigned projects.               

About the Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent Engineering qualification recognised by the Institution of Engineers Australia and registration in accordance with Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 or an ability to become registered is preferred.
  • Experience in Local Government engineering.
  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to gain cooperation and assistance from a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to liaise with counterparts in other organisations to discuss and resolve specialist problems and ideas.
  • Ability to provide guidance and demonstrate leadership in area of expertise.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and conflicting priorities within a busy environment.
  • Proven customer service skills and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to analyse complex problems.
  • Sound computer skills.
