As a senior role within the Civil Asset Planning team, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Traffic/Transport Engineer with a desire to shape the strategic direction of the Council's service delivery by creating and implementing important traffic-related policies, strategies, plans, and programs. This role is crucial in ensuring that community needs for road safety can be met.

The role is essential for maximizing external funding opportunities to continue to address road safety issues within a growing community. Balancing increasing urban growth with the broader rural townships, the role presents an exciting opportunity to establish various frameworks to ensure consistent and transparent decision making.

About the Role

Council’s Civil Asset Planning team are looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer who will be responsible for the provision of efficient and effective delivery of traffic and transportation related engineering services for Baw Baw Shire Council and the broader community.

The Senior Traffic Engineer is responsible for managing the provision of Council’s traffic and road safety related assets and services.

This role will require the successful candidate to undertake investigations and provide engineering technical advice and professional and efficient services to Council, internal service units and the community on a wide range of infrastructure related matters such as traffic, parking, DDA compliance and other associated infrastructure works.

The Senior Traffic Engineer will be involved in the development and implementation of policy, strategy and plans to support the provision of Council’s road safety and traffic management services, road safety functions and related infrastructure. This will include undertaking planning of infrastructure projects, including investigating cost-effective technical solutions, cost estimates for the works, construction considerations, preparing preliminary designs and delivering assigned projects.               

About the Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent Engineering qualification recognised by Engineers Australia and registration in accordance with the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 is preferred.
  • Experience in Local Government engineering (ideally 7+ years)
  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and conflicting priorities within a busy environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to analyse complex problems.
