About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated individual to join and lead Blacktown City Council’s Arts and Cultural Development unit. This position oversees the management of The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre and the delivery of the Blacktown Arts program.

This leader will be responsible for guiding Blacktown Arts into its next exciting chapter of program development and presentation across Blacktown and beyond. The successful applicant must have the capacity to communicate our artistic vision with confidence and passion to external funding bodies, partner organisations, artists, and of course, our wider communities and residents.

This is a unique opportunity to oversee the development and delivery of our artistic and strategic objectives as a Council service, and as leaders in the development of contemporary art in Australia.

We aim to provide leadership in contemporary arts programming that is responsive to the Blacktown local context and relevant in the wider regional, national and international arts sector.

Key responsibilities:

This role oversees the operation and supervision of 28 staff and volunteers working within the arts field. 

You will be accountable for the delivery of annual operational plans, policies, budgets and strategies for the Arts and Cultural Development unit, providing timely and professional advise to the Director and Chief Executive Officer on emerging and current issues, and performance of the section, and be required to represent Council and Blacktown City in a positive image on all relevant committees/boards. A key element of this role is compliance with statutory and legal requirements, including policy issues on EEO and WHS, along with maintaining high ethical standards in all instances.


Qualifications and Experience


  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in an associated area 
  • The ability to develop and implement a vision for the pro-active and positive development of Council’s Arts and Cultural Development section 
  • Exceptional inter-personal and staff management skills 
  • Current driver's licence.

Salary and conditions

This role offers an attractive and competitive remuneration package and company vehicle or car allowance, to be negotiated by the successful candidate. 9.5% employer superannuation contribution and access to additional employee benefits.
