About the opportunity

• Permanent, full time position
Develop and implement arts and cultural programs and strategies in close consultation with First Nations artists and communities in Blacktown

The First Nations Creative Producer works within Blacktown Arts, the division of Blacktown City Council responsible for the delivery of a diverse program of creative and cultural experiences, the management of The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, for cultural planning for Blacktown City.

At Blacktown Arts we walk alongside our First Nations Elders, knowledge holders, and broader communities of artists, partners and collaborators in our shared vision of creative and cultural experiences being part of everyone’s daily lives. A deep sense of culture, place and people sit at the heart of everything we do.

The First Nations Creative Producer role would suit a producer with experience working with First Nations artists and communities, who can demonstrate an understanding of the greater western Sydney context. You will have the ability to develop creative strategies, projects and collaborations that build capacity, support self-determination and develop public engagement.

You should be highly organised, with strong artist and community networks, an understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Aboriginality (In accordance with Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, Aboriginality is a
    genuine occupational qualification for this position)
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field
  • Suitable experience working with, along with knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting, First
    Nations artists and communities in Blacktown, and good understanding of local and state-wide services
    and resources available to support arts and cultural development in First Nations communities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service
  • Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proven capacity to work in a high-pressure team environment with competing demands
  • Working With Children Check.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an arts environment or demonstrable interest and or participation in the arts
    industry
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise written
    reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant local, state and federal funding bodies
  • Current class C driver’s licence

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,662.54 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
