About the opportunity

We have a rapidly expanding Natural Areas portfolio with numerous natural assets to maintain and this role is important in shaping the future of our Natural Areas network.

This is a fixed-term position up to June 2025.

  • The team focus is on bio-retention systems and Water Sensitive Urban Design assets/ constructed waterway management
  • Ensuring bio-retention systems and wetlands are maintained in accordance with the service
  • Assist with training and development of Councils Apprentices
  • As a bio-retention worker, you will be responsible for undertaking the maintenance of Bioretention systems, wetlands, lakes and associated Water sensitive urban (WSUD) assets to ensure the highest level of finish that is safe and attractive to our natural areas
  • You will play a vital role in improving the natural environment of the Blacktown local government area. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant qualifications in Horticulture or equivalent, or satisfactory completion of an indentured Apprenticeship as a Gardener
  • Extensive experience in maintenance of WSUD assets, gardens and landscaped areas
  • Chemical Application AQF 3 or equivalent
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Current MR driver’s licence
  • Chainsaw operation certificate of competence
  • Traffic Controller Implementation accreditation
  • First Aid certificate.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,265.47 per week
  • 38-hour working week
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
