About the opportunity

Looking for a challenge where you can grow your skills? Then this is the job for you. We are looking for a Ground-based arborist to join our experienced Tree Maintenance Team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Using your ground-based arboriculture skills, you will be working to maintain and improve our urban forest for the benefit and safety of our community. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Certificate II in Arboriculture or related field
  • Current class “MR” driver’s licence or ability to obtain within a 3-month period
  • Suitable experience in the field of arboriculture
  • Recognised training and experience in chainsaw operation at levels 1 and 2
  • Traffic Controller accreditation or ability and willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of a large tree chipper
  • Relevant recognised training and experience in basic arboriculture tasks
  • NSW General Construction Induction card (white card)
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Coordinate work site activities
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Work safely near live electrical apparatus qualification, or ability and willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment
  • Skills in the operation of computers, mobile phones and tablets.

Desirable:

  • Relevant recognised training and experience in Chainsaw Operation at levels 3 and 4
  • Certificate III in Horticulture
  • Pesticide / herbicide application accreditation (AQF 3)
  • Experience in the planting and establishment of trees
  • Operate and maintain stump grinding machines.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,265.47 per week
  • 38-hour working week
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
