About the opportunity

Join our dynamic Community Development team as a Social Planning Officer on a permanent, full-time basis.

You will play a crucial role in shaping Blacktown's future by reviewing social impact assessments for new developments and conducting research into community needs.

You will also support the team by developing innovative strategies to address the evolving needs of our diverse community.

Reporting directly to the Coordinator Social Planning, you will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that our social and cultural infrastructure is responsive and inclusive. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification (minimum diploma) in social science, social planning, town planning or a related discipline
  • Extensive work experience in community engagement or a social/community planning role
  • Demonstrated experience in primary research/ data collection and the application of primary and secondary research methodologies delivering human services research and analysis projects
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing and giving professional comments from social perspective on Planning Proposal, State Significant Development Applications, Development Applications and other development issues
  • Demonstrated experience working as a member of a team to deliver collaborative outcomes
  • Demonstrated high-level written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer literate in basic office applications and the ability to quickly learn corporate applications
  • Current class C driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in Local Government
  • Knowledge of the Human Services Sector in the Blacktown Local Government Area (LGA).

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,798.21 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
