About the opportunity
We have an exciting leadership opportunity within our Tree Management team for an experienced Urban Forest Coordinator.
We are seeking someone who is deeply passionate about tree management and environmental sustainability.
The Coordinator Urban Forest position manages a team of professional and operational staff, playing a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the urban and open space tree canopy.
Working as part of the Tree Management Team, your responsibilities will include:
- assisting with street and park tree works
- managing various tree strategies
- tree planting projects
- delivering exceptional customer service
- providing expert technical arboricultural advice to a range of stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Degree qualification in Environmental science, horticulture or a related field
- Diploma of Arboriculture (AQF Level 5)
- Solid experience in arboriculture operations and an understanding of the issues, principles and practices relating to the management of urban forest assets within the private and public domain
- Solid leadership skills
- Solid experience in problem solving
- Experience working with large, fast-paced, complex organisations, with the ability to represent the Urban Forest Team with both internal and external audiences
- Solid experience in workforce management/resource planning, preparation of policy, procedures and strategy
- Solid experience in developing budgeted forward tree works programs, project management, contract management (including associated administration), community consultation, project scoping and estimating
- High level of communication skills, with excellent writing and editorial skills
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations including industry standards, environmental issues and current technology
- Advanced level of computer skills including MS suite and use of technical corporate systems in or equivalent to AutoCAD, GIS mapping systems, financial and record management systems.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $2,175.94 per week
- 35-hour working week
