About the opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual to join our Greenspace Services team as a Contracts Officer on a permanent, full-time basis.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for conducting site inspections and audits to ensure that contractors deliver services such as mowing, parks and facility maintenance in accordance with contract specifications, industry standards, and community expectations. This is a fast-paced role ideal for someone passionate about quality assurance in public domain maintenance and committed to delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.

The preferred candidate will:

  • Conduct inspections and audits of greenspace maintenance contracts to ensure quality and compliance
  • Support contractors and staff to meet service and safety standards
  • Assist with contract management, reporting, and issue resolution
  • Respond to public and stakeholder enquiries about greenspace maintenance
  • Promote WHS best practices and maintain a safe working environment
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and internal teams to ensure effective service delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a hands-on role in ensuring Blacktown’s public open spaces remain safe, attractive, and well-maintained for our residents and visitors. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Certificate III in Horticulture or a related field
  • Current class C driver's licence
  • Chemical Application AQF3 Accreditation
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations including industry standards, environmental issues and current technology
  • Solid working knowledge of computer software applications
  • Well developed written and verbal communication and problem solving skills, including a proven ability to engage, negotiate and resolve issues
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in developing positive supplier relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Experience in planning and coordinating day to day activities
  • Experience in greenspaces maintenance
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience in contract management and an understanding of the issues, principles and practices relating to the management of open space and assets within the public domain
  • Demonstrated experience in budget and the procurement of services
  • First aid certificate.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,622.73 per week
  • 35-hour working week
