We have 6 community libraries across our local government area: Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Stanhope Gardens, Riverstone, Lalor Park, and Marsden Park Temporary Library. We also have a popular mobile library service.

About the opportunity

Blacktown City Libraries are seeking an enthusiastic library professional to lead several teams within the library service (Library Courier, Home Library Service and Mobile Library) on a permanent, full-time basis.

The job also includes the development of events and campaigns that address the needs and interests of adults. This includes programs that are developed in partnership within Council and other organisations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing towards library services for the Blacktown community in the area of services to adults with a special focus on events and programs to older adults
  • Planning, coordinating, evaluating and promoting a wide range of innovative activities and programs that enhance opportunities for adults within the library. Ensuring the activities are flexible and responsive to the relevant clients’ needs
  • Supervising the Library’s Home Library and Courier Services, and overseeing the Mobile Library
  • Participating in the Library team effort of providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Eligibility for professional membership of ALIA
  • Solid Library experience
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and communications both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading staff
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Relevant computer skills including experience in the use of electronic and online resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and independently
  • Demonstrated experience in event management; initiation, planning, delivery and evaluation of a variety of events, including the development of promotional materials
  • Current class C driver’s licence
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC).

Desirable:

  • Public library experience, working with a multitude of external stakeholders and providing programs and activities to a varied clientele groups, with particular focus on older adults and/or Home Library Service
  • Experience with stakeholder liaison
  • Ability to speak a community language
  • Experience managing a small budget.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,621.31 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
