About the opportunity

Our Community Development team plays a critical role in shaping the capacity and cohesion of our City. Charged with working specifically with the youth, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), disability, children's, senior's and women's sectors and with our large and growing First Nations community, the team works with specialist staff across Council and specialist agencies within the community.

Working as a Community Development Officer - Access and Inclusion on a permanent, full-time basis, you will possess the qualifications, experience and passion to take a lead role in identifying and harnessing opportunities for members of our diverse community, of all ethnicity and abilities. An ideal candidate will have high-level analytical and negotiation skills and have a proven record of delivering innovative solutions to identified community needs. 

As a member of our Community section, you will have the ability to support and enhance the work of the section’s social planning and community facilities teams. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications 
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with people with disabilities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Demonstrated experience working as a member of a team to deliver collaborative outcomes
  • Demonstrated high-level written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer literate in basic office applications and the ability to quickly learn corporate applications
  • Current class C driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in, or an understanding of the diversity of services offered by local government.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,861.14 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Car allowance
