About the opportunity

This permanent, full-time position is primarily responsible for providing high-level strategic and business support to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Management Committee, including advice, management of communications and implementing strategies to support the achievement of the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives.

An ideal candidate will manage the CEO's executive administration team, contribute to business planning, manage budget expenditure, and coordinate and monitor key projects and customer service priorities.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree qualifications in relevant field
  • Substantial experience in local and/or state government
  • Ability to work autonomously, and manage multiple competing priorities within tight timeframes
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team across multiple divisions, directing professional or other staff in the planning, implementation and review of major programs
  • Demonstrated high level of oral and written skills, particularly the ability to write, edit and critique correspondence as well as complex and detailed technical reports, proposals and submissions
  • High level computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications
  • Availability to work flexible hours
  • Current class C driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the functions of Council
  • Experience in Plain English writing and editing.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $2,642.87 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
