About the opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Animal Services Support Officer on a permanent, full-time basis, with exceptional communication skills to uphold our values, and work with the public to assist in their compliance with responsible animal ownership. 

The candidate will be highly motivated, have advanced animal handling techniques, which align with our low-stress animal handling and welfare ethics. This role requires skills with the safe capture, restraint and transport of animals including livestock.

A rotating roster for on-call duties is also required. 

A successful candidate will:

  • Ensure tasks are carried out to meet customer and business needs within nominated time frames
  • Seize and/or impound companion animals in compliance with legislative requirements and Council’s policies and procedures
  • Facilitate the surrender of companion animals and the impounding of livestock at BARC or elsewhere within Council boundaries
  • Reunite animal owners with their pets as quickly as possible
  • Educate animal owners on provisions of legislation which affect them.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Formal qualifications or a demonstrated high level of experience in animal management or similar
    regulatory environment
  • A high level of experience handling companion animals
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of animal care and welfare issues
  • High level oral and written communication skills, including sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Current class C driver’s licence.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,362.15 per week
  • 38-hour working week
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
