About the opportunity

At Blacktown, we are dedicated to providing quality sportsfield turf surfaces to our local community. With 165 individual sporting fields and plans to construct over 20 more within the next 10 years, we’re entering an exciting phase of growth. We are seeking a highly motivated, appropriately qualified, and experienced individual to lead and work within a small team, providing specialised sports turf maintenance on a permanent, full-time basis. 

This role involves a broad range of turf management responsibilities, including renovation practices, irrigation monitoring, pest control programs, line marking, seasonal changeover, works programming, hazard reporting, and the effective and safe usage of equipment.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Tertiary or trade qualifications in Sports Turf Management, Horticulture (Turf), or a related area
  • Class MR driver’s licence
  • Demonstratable experience in leading a team
  • Demonstratable experience and knowledge in the maintenance and preparation of high standard sporting fields, synthetic surface maintenance, turf wicket maintenance, baseball diamond maintenance and other areas of sports field and reserve maintenance
  • Current AQF4 Chemical Risk Management certification
  • Extensive working knowledge of irrigation system operation and maintenance
  • The ability to and experience in the operation of turf renovation equipment such as Earthquake Verti Drain, Amazone turf aeration equipment or equivalent as well as GPS navigated and fully automated spray equipment Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn corporate applications
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Availability to work rostered overtime as required.

Desirable:

  • Chainsaw operation certificate of competence
  • Senior First Aid certificate
  • Forklift licence / competency.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,502.79 per week
  • 38-hour working week
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 12% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
