About the opportunity

We are seeking two enthusiastic Urban Planners to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. You will play a key role in the delivery of land use, housing, and infrastructure strategies across Blacktown.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist in the preparation of local planning strategies, LEPs, DCPs and planning proposals
  • Conduct research and data analysis to inform planning projects
  • Support stakeholder consultation and community engagement activities
  • Provide planning advice to internal stakeholders and assist with planning certificate updates.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree qualifications in planning or a relevant or related field
  • As a guide a minimum of 12 months experience in urban planning or a related field
  • Ability to prepare written documents and professional reports in plain English to a diverse audience
  • Ability to manage projects relating to the urban environment
  • Understanding of the New South Wales Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant legislation, regulations, state planning policies and instruments
  • Demonstrated oral communication, information technology, data analysis, research, analytical and other problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
  • Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and deliver outcomes on time and to a high standard
  • Conduct that demonstrates to others Council's commitment to teamwork, customer focus, innovation, creativity, quality service and safety 
  • Current class C driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in master planning, or the development of planning strategies
  • Experience working as a planner in Local Government, State Government and/or the Private Sector. 

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,790.59 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Car allowance
