About the opportunity

We are seeking a qualified civil engineer on a permanent, full-time basis, with experience in assessing and approving engineering plans associated with the delivery of new civil infrastructure assets, such as roads, and drainage associated with urban development and greenfield subdivisions.

In this role, you will:

  • Work within a team of engineers to assess civil engineering plans against our engineering guidelines, specifications, and development controls
  • Provide timely and accurate civil engineering advice to internal and external customers regarding urban development
  • Issue engineering approvals under the relevant legislation for civil works
  • Conduct site inspections, provide advice, and support to our development inspectors.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant degree qualifications in a related field. e.g. Civil Engineering
  • Extensive relevant experience
  • Current class C driver’s licence
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations.

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993, and Roads Act 1993
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Familiar with MS Office Suite, Design Software – AutoCAD, Drains, and Tuflow
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $2,165.24 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Leaseback vehicle or car allowance
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
