About the opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced nursery professional to take the lead in managing the operations of our plant nursery on a term contract, full-time basis for up to 12 months.
In this position, you will play a vital role in helping to green Blacktown by overseeing staff, managing plant production, coordinating daily workflows, processing orders, and ensuring exceptional customer service. If you have strong experience supervising teams and managing all aspects of plant production, including propagation, growing, maintenance, and pest control, this may be the perfect role for you!
You will be responsible for ensuring the Nursery operates efficiently and cost‑effectively, with a strong focus on maintaining a consistent supply of plants and trees for Council projects and our well‑loved “Tree Give‑Away” program. A key part of the role also involves leading, mentoring, and supporting staff, apprentices, volunteers, and trainees to help them develop their skills and contribute to a positive team environment.
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Relevant Post Trade or Advanced Qualifications in a related field
- Suitable experience in a related field
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- Chemical Application AQF4or equivalent
- Computer literate
- Class C driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- WorkCover approved Front-end loader accreditation
- WorkCover approved WHS General Construction Induction for Work in NSW
- TAFE Conservation and Land Management (CALM) Certificate
- Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,621.31 per week
- 38-hour working week
- Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
