About the opportunity
Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre (BARC) is one of the largest and most progressive animal care facilities in NSW. We are committed to providing compassionate and high-quality care for lost, abandoned, and surrendered animals while actively working to find them loving forever homes.
We are looking for a dedicated Animal Rehoming Officer to join our dynamic team on a permanent, full-time basis. In this role, you will play a key part in helping our animals transition from the shelter into the arms of new, responsible owners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in assessing animals for adoption suitability
- Matching potential adopters with suitable pets based on lifestyle, temperament, and needs
- Coordinating and conducting meet-and-greet sessions and adoption interviews
- Providing accurate information and education to adopters on animal care
- Maintaining detailed and up-to-date animal records
- Supporting promotional events and campaigns to encourage responsible pet ownership and adoptions
- Working collaboratively with animal care, veterinary, foster carers, rescue agencies and customer service teams.

Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Formal qualifications or a demonstrated high level of experience in companion animal management or similar regulatory environment
- A high level of experience handling companion animals, particularly dogs and cats
- A sound knowledge and understanding of animal care and welfare issues
- High level oral and written communication skills including sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Current class C drivers licence.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,362.15 per week
- 38-hour working week
- Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
