About the opportunity

We are seeking 2 experienced and motivated Community Engagement Officers to join our team on a term contract, part‑time basis for up to 18 months.

This is a standout opportunity to contribute to a high‑profile project funded through the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund and play a key role in strengthening community resilience across Blacktown City.

In this role, you will collaborate across Council, work directly with our diverse communities, and help shape practical, community‑led solutions that create meaningful local impact.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Minimum degree level qualifications in community development, environmental, educational discipline or equivalent
  • Suitable experience in collaborating and negotiating outcomes with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge in community development, emergency management, climate adaptation, or disaster resilience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities and tailor engagement approaches to different cultural needs
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations and workshops, write correspondence and reports
  • Experience using initiative, creativity, and consultation to deliver effective community engagement
  • Class C driver's licence.

Desirable: 

  • Community Development and Disaster Resilience Knowledge Base is desirable - awareness of contemporary trends, issues and their application and impact
  • Relevant local government experience
  • Understanding of the Blacktown Local Government Area, including its diverse communities, key stakeholders, and environmental or resilience related challenges
  • Availability to work flexible hours.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,790.59 per week, pro-rata
  • 21-hour working week
