About the opportunity
Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre (BARC) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Animal Attendant to join our dynamic, supportive team on a permanent, full-time basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a meaningful environment where your efforts genuinely improve the lives of animals and the community. As an Animal Attendant, you will play an essential role in the daily care, enrichment, and overall wellbeing of the animals in our care, while collaborating closely with a committed team of staff and volunteers. Your ideas and contributions will be valued as we work together to achieve positive outcomes.
We are looking for someone with relevant qualifications and substantial experience handling companion animals. At BARC, we pride ourselves on using fear‑free handling techniques, and we’re searching for a team‑oriented individual who shares our strong focus on animal welfare. Occasional weekend overtime may be required.

Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Relevant qualifications in an appropriate field
- Significant experience in handling companion animals
- Current class C driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Qualified microchip implanter
- Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of animal care and welfare issues
- Computer literate in basic office applications and the ability to quickly learn corporate applications
- Developed verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Ability to drive manual vehicle
- Experience in handling livestock.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,197.30 per week
- 38-hour working week
- Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
