About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader Impounding and Animal Welfare to join our team at the Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre on a permanent, full-time basis.

The ideal candidate will have great communication skills and experience leading people in a busy, high‑pressure and emotional environment. You will be confident handling conflict, supporting staff, and keeping things running smoothly day to day. You will also have strong experience working with a high volume of animals and a solid understanding of animal care and welfare. A genuine passion for helping animals and maintaining high welfare standards is essential.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Certificate IV in an appropriate field
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with customers, contractors, staff and management
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and supervising a team including the ability to motivate the position holder’s staff at the facility
  • High level oral and written communication skills, including sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Sound computer skills with proficiency in the use of Council’s data systems
  • The ability to work with animals
  • Demonstrated commitment to reunite lost animals with their owner ASAP and providing quality care for all impounded animals
  • Current C class driver's licence
  • Sound knowledge of all relevant Acts, Regulations, Guidelines of the Companion Animals Act 1998.

Desirable: 

  • Relevant qualifications in the area of Business Studies, Management or Animal related field
  • Qualified microchip implanter
  • Ability to drive manual vehicle.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,502.79 per week
  • 38-hour working week
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 12% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
