About the opportunity

The position is responsible for promoting good governance in line with the requirement of the Local Government Act 1993, maintaining probity of Council's decision-making processes, and assisting with the implementation of Council's Policy and Legislative Compliance Framework and ensuring awareness and currency of administration and governance practice and policies.

The role is also responsible to supervise the Information Management team in the administration of record keeping in line with the NSW State Records Act 1998 and lead the Governance and Access to Information Team in the delivery of coordinated governance and access to information activities and related functions in line with statutory requirements across Council, ensuring good practice in ethics and the decision-making process. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Law, Business, Commerce, Management or a related field
  • Solid relevant experience
  • Ability to lead and work within a team environment
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience in interpreting legislation, drafting and/or editing policies and reports in plain English style
  • Knowledge of legislation/regulations applicable to local government, in particular the Local Government Act 1993, Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and State Records Act 1998
  • Demonstrated high level of negotiation skills
  • Current Class “C” Driver’s Licence.

Desirable: 

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Experience in presenting information to Councillors, the Executive and Senior Management.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $2,511.14 per week
  • 35-hour working week 
  • Car allowance
