About The Opportunity

You will be responsible for carrying out daily operational tasks and ensuring you meet the daily routines/requirements at prescribed at Alexandra Park Zoo. Key responsibilities include maintaining high standards of husbandry for both native and exotic species, fostering effective communication within the team, and actively participating in education and community engagement programs. You will also contribute to the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the zoo environment. This hands-on role is well suited to someone who is passionate about animal welfare and committed to creating positive experiences for visitors and the wider community. 

About You

  • Demonstrated zoo keeping experience within a similar environment.
  • Certificate III in Captive Animals or higher, or the ability to acquire it
  • Demonstrated understanding of procedures, statutory requirements, legislation and applicable standards pertaining to exhibited animals and wildlife.
  • Demonstrated communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills relevant to the position and strongly focussed on the provision of quality customer service.
  • Possession of a Class C Driver’s License, Working with Children Blue Card, and Construction Industry General Safety Induction Card
  • Ability to operate computer systems including corporate applications, ZIMS record keeping software and the MS Office Suite desirable.
  • Possession of a Horticulture qualification is desirable.
  • Knowledge of zoological parks environment, landscape and maintenance methods & activities highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and basic maintenance of relevant item/s of plant desirable.
