Bundaberg Regional Council is seeking both Regulatory Services Officers and a Senior Regulatory Services Officer - Animal Management to help ensure our community remains safe, well-regulated, and supported through fair enforcement and public education.

These roles are ideal for individuals who are confident working both independently and as part of a team, thrive on real-world problem-solving, and can remain calm and professional in complex or emotionally sensitive situations.

Regulatory Services Officer

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to your community by supporting the enforcement of Council's local laws and State legislation. In this role, you will undertake patrols, conduct investigations, and respond to a range of compliance matters such as animal management, overgrown allotments, abandoned vehicles, and regulated parking. Your ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in challenging situations will be essential to delivering high-quality service to the public.

About You:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting investigations and enforcing Local Government legislation, particularly related to Animal Management and Local Laws.
  • Experience in animal management and animal husbandry, including cattery and kennel maintenance, disease control and animal hygiene, local laws and parking regulations.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including the area of problem solving and negotiation.
  • Proficient in using computer systems, including electronic infringement software, devices and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.
  • Available to work outside normal operating hours and in accordance with the section’s roster.
  • Physically capable of performing manual handling duties.
  • Holds a ‘C’ Class driver’s licence.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict and maintain a calm, professional approach to members of the public.

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Investigation and Enforcement) or equivalent.

Senior Regulatory Services Officer - Animal Management

This role supports leadership within the Regulatory Services team by assisting the Team Leader in mentoring and guiding Regulatory Services Officers, promoting consistent service standards, and improving the delivery of animal management services. As a Senior Officer, you will be responsible for managing high-level investigations, supporting regulated dog enforcement, and ensuring the effective resolution of complex customer requests. You will also contribute to staff training, community engagement, and the development of best-practice compliance tools and resources.

About You:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in regulatory investigations and compliance.
  • Excellent oral communication skills including mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of current Queensland local government and State animal management legislation.
  • Well-developed problem solving and research skills with the ability to provide detailed operational advice and mentoring to Regulatory Services animal management staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Local Government work practices, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to work outside normal operating hours and in accordance a rotating roster.
  • Experience in preparing routine correspondence, memorandums, and reports.
  • Well-developed computer skills.
  • Holds a ‘C’ Class driver’s licence.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict and maintain a calm, professional approach to members of the public.

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Investigation and Enforcement) or equivalent. 
  • Experience with noise monitoring technology and preparing court documentation.
  • First line supervisor training and/or proven experience in guiding/mentoring staff.
