About The Opportunity
Bundaberg Regional Council is seeking a highly skilled Security and Technical Lead to strengthen our cyber security capability and support critical IT outcomes across Council. This is a fixed-term, 6-month opportunity only, suited to an experienced professional available to make an immediate impact in a short-term capacity.
This role combines strategic security leadership with hands-on technical expertise, ensuring Council's systems, infrastructure, and data remain secure, reliable, and efficient. You will also act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues, helping to protect essential services that support our community.
About You
- Extensive experience working across multiple IT disciplines (infrastructure, networks, cloud, security, and end-user computing)
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across diverse environments
- Strong practical experience with identity platforms (AD/Azure AD), networking and infrastructure, and cloud computing (Azure and AWS)
- Hands-on experience with security tools (e.g. firewalls, EDR, SIEM) and operating systems including Windows, Linux, Android, and Apple
- Proven experience applying security frameworks such as NIST, ISO, or Essential 8, and managing critical incidents or security events
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and provide guidance to others
- Unrestricted Class C Driver Licence
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Cyber Security
- Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA, ITIL)
- Local Government experience
