The role

Policy and Planning

  • In conjunction with the Rowing Director, plan and prioritise all tasks within the area of responsibility within required time and budgetary parameters.
  • Plan and review all necessary periodic maintenance, gardening and equipment schedules.
  • Implement procedures to identify and correct Workplace Health and Safety concerns.
  • Implement training and operating procedures to reduce maintenance issues within the Rowing Shed.

Organising and Operating

  • Hands-on work repairing and maintaining rowing boats and equipment.
  • Conduct all necessary periodic facility and equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with target standards.
  • Conduct all necessary reactive (work request) maintenance activities at the Rowing Shed, and at the main BGS campus,
  • Oversee the purchase of necessary equipment and materials within approved budgetary constraints.
  • Perform all necessary tasks as required to ensure facilities are continually maintained and presented at a high standard, including maintenance of the boats, oars, ergos, trailers, speed boats and other related equipment, gardening and cleaning.
  • Conduct all necessary periodic maintenance, gardening and cleaning to ensure facilities are continually maintained and presented at a high standard and in accordance with the agreed Maintenance Schedule.
  • Purchase equipment and workshop supplies, ensuring prior approval from the Rowing Director.
  • Ensure that the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety legislation are implemented.

Interactions

  • Liaise with the Maintenance Department to ensure awareness Rowing Shed requirements.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department at the main Spring Hill campus as required.
  • Liaise with contractors as necessary.
  • Develop and foster a relationship with maintenance staff to ensure the delivery of agreed major works and repairs of the building.
  • Liaise with the Rowing Director to ensure the implementation of related purchasing policies and all other financial systems.
  • Liaise with other users of the facility (Tipperoo and BGGS) to coordinate safe and efficient access to the facility and equipment.

Any other duty as assigned by the Headmaster, Rowing Director or delegated authority.

About you

Required skills and qualifications

  • Qualified boat builder and repairer or equivalent experience
  • Capability to tow rowing boat trailers, dingy trailers, and various logistical trailers up to 3.5 tonnes.
  • Knowledge and experience in safely transporting and loading boat trailers and equipment trailers
  • Rowing coaching experience an advantage
