About the role
As an Assistant in Nursing, you will work under the direction and supervision of Registered and Enrolled Nurses to provide direct patient care and essential support across our ward. You will play an important role in maintaining a safe, culturally sensitive and welcoming environment for patients and their families, while supporting the smooth operation of daily clinical activities. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your clinical skills in a respected, values‑driven private hospital. The opportunities are casual and based at our Stepney location.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide delegated aspects of nursing care in line with the nursing care plan.
- Assist with hygiene, mobility, comfort measures and routine observations.
- Support safe patient transfers, admissions, discharges and perioperative preparation.
- Maintain a clean and orderly patient environment and assist with manual handling tasks.
- Contribute to accurate documentation and promptly report changes in patient condition.
- Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
- Comply with all BH policies, protocols, privacy requirements and the Code of Conduct.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum second‑year undergraduate nursing student and/or Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC).
Skills & Capabilities
- Work experience in a similar healthcare support role.
- Knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and ability to adapt to changing care needs.
- Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to patient‑centred care and a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Organisational skills, attention to detail and sound clinical judgement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PiMS.
- Understanding of infection control, quality improvement and ethical practice.
- Demonstrates professionalism, confidentiality and alignment with Burnside Hospital’s values.
