About the role
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Ward Assistant ensures patient comfort, safety and the smooth operation of the hospital ward by supporting patients and clinical staff. This includes assisting with patient care tasks, maintaining ward cleanliness, assisting with the movement of patients and equipment, and maintaining effective communication and accurate documentation and records, competently relaying verbal and written information between patients, staff and other departments as required. The role works as part of a team of dedicated staff delivering high quality clinical care to patients.
This is a permanent part-time opportunity based at our Stepney site, and operates on a 5-day roster basis - Monday to Friday, morning and afternoon shifts.

About you
You will enjoy engaging and communicating with patients, hospital staff, and clinical and management professionals while applying your experience in the healthcare setting in a way that helps Burnside Hospital achieve its operational goals. This position requires an individual who:
- Has demonstrated experience in a similar position
- Has well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills that support establishing and maintaining effective relationships
- Commits to a patient-focused approach in service provision, and contributes to a culture that promotes a safe, harmonious and collaborative work environment
- Is able to work effectively autonomously and collaboratively in a team
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and hospital database systems including Patient Information Management System (PiMS), and competent word processing skills
- Possesses strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with ability to self-prioritise, work to deadlines and respond to changing priorities
- Embodies Burnside Hospital’s values-based approach
- Maintains the highest ethical standards and treats all hospital and patient matters with confidentiality and respect.
