About the role
Reporting to the Catering Manager, the Chef is responsible for preparing and delivering nutritious, safe, and appetising meals to patients, staff and hospital visitors. This role works as part of a multidisciplinary Catering team who plays a vital role in supporting health, wellbeing and safety by delivering high-quality, nutritious, tailored meals to suit a diverse range of consumers in a timely, professional and friendly manner.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity based at our Stepney site, and operates over a 7-day roster of morning and afternoon shifts, offering a healthy work-life balance.

About you
You will be passionate about food and be looking for a role where you can apply your skills and customer service approach in a way that helps Burnside Hospital make a positive impact on the experience of patients and visitors. This position requires an individual who has:
- At a minimum a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role in large-scale food preparation, ideally in a healthcare setting
- A patient-focused approach to meal services that contributes to patient recovery and overall hospital experience
- Supervisory or team-leading experience in a similar environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage professionally and respectfully with all team members
- Working knowledge of food safety standards (e.g. HACCP) and relevant legislation and best practice
- Sound understanding of special and modified-diets cooking
- Ability to work autonomously and manage time while maintaining safety and efficiency in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Proficiency in the use of basic information technology
- The highest ethical standards and treats all hospital and patient matters with confidentiality and respect
