CENTRAL PROJECTS FUNCTION

Bravus’ new Central Projects Function is tasked with delivering the significant sustaining capital program of Facilities, Infrastructure, Processing, Rail Systems and Technology works for our Carmichael Rail Network, Bowen Rail Company, and Bravus Mining and Resources businesses.

This is an unmatched opportunity to work as part of a cohesive, multi-disciplinary team, on both rail and mining projects valued at more than A$100 million in the next 12 months alone.

Bravus’ mining, rail network, and freight rail assets have decades-long operational horizons, and this provides an exciting pipeline of largescale projects for the Central Projects Function to deliver.  The Project Manager will be assigned responsibility for delivery of capital projects aligned with Bravus’s strategic goals.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a Monday – Friday role based at the Carmichael Mine. The first major programme of works assigned to the role of Project Manager – Capital Works, is for planning, execution, and delivery of BRAVUS Carmichael Mine Industrial Area, workshop, warehouse and related office and ablution facilities.  This position is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of projects aimed at enhancing the reliability, efficiency, and safety of maintenance operations.  Bravus partners with specialist Contractors to design and construct the works and manages delivery through a project owner’s team led by the Project Manager.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead and oversee maintenance infrastructure projects from inception to completion, including project scoping, planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance teams, engineering personnel, vendors, and contractors to define project objectives, requirements, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with operational needs and strategic goals.
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, and regularly monitor and adjust project schedules and resources to meet project milestones and objectives.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, including sourcing contract delivery partners, materials, equipment, and services required for project implementation, while adhering to budgetary constraints and quality standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments for each project phase, identify potential risks and mitigation strategies, and implement proactive measures to minimise project risks and disruptions.
  • Manage construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety protocols, environmental regulations, and operational requirements, while minimising impact on ongoing maintenance operations.
  • Monitor project budgets, track expenditures, analyse cost variances, and implement corrective actions to control project costs and optimise financial performance.
  • Provide regular progress updates and reports to senior management and key stakeholders, highlighting project achievements, challenges, and deviations from planned objectives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement among project team members and contractors through effective leadership, training, and communication.
  • Conduct post-project evaluations and lessons learned sessions to identify process improvements, best practices, and opportunities for future project optimisation.

Other qualifications and attributes required include:

 

Necessary:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in project management, with a focus on maintenance infrastructure projects within the Queensland coal mining sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from conception to completion, within budget and schedule, while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Proficiency in project management software tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in commercial management and negotiation
  • Current Coal Board Medical, Standard 11, S1, S2, S3.

 

Desired:

 

  • Major infrastructure delivery experience as a Contractor or Owner
  • Strong understanding of maintenance operations, infrastructure design, construction methodologies, and regulatory requirements specific to coal mining environments.
