Manager Environment (Internal Opportunity)

We’re excited to announce an opportunity for Manager Environment, where you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Head of Environment and Approvals to deliver key environmental and approval requirements. In this leadership position, you will provide high-level support and expert advice to both corporate and operational teams on environmental planning and approvals, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing impactful programs and projects, while leading the charge in fostering a culture of sustainability, accountability, and environmental leadership across the business. This opportunity is structured around a 5/2 roster, based in our office with regular travel to site as required. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the site environmental team and develop site operational personnel.   

  • Provide environmental support to operations which avoids delays to productivity and approval non-compliance.  

  • Implement the Strategy and Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensure compliance is maintained.  

  • Identify, prepare, submit, implement, report and amend environmental approvals, permits, and licences.  

  • Ensure compliance with Commonwealth, State and Local Council approvals and conditions including associated plans.  

  • Identify, prepare, and implement management plans and strategies.   

  • Develop and manage the environmental and approvals budget.  

  • Ensure activities and expenses are approved and accounted for and maintained within allocated budgets.  

  • Research, communicate and implement environmental innovations and technologies to effective and efficient.  

  • Engage and manage environmental and approvals related consultants and contractors.  

  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting under various regulatory schemes and approvals.  

  • Oversee Biodiversity Offset Strategy, Black-throated Finch Management Plan, and other plans.  

  • Manage research programs including Black-throated Finch and Great Artesian Basin research.  

  • Supervise Biodiversity Offset Strategies for key areas, such as Moray Downs West and Fig Tree Offset Area.  

  • Oversee and prepare for internal and external compliance activities, including audits and inspections.  

  • Maintain effective communication with government agencies and external stakeholders.  

  • Identify, assess, monitor, and report environmental risks and management measures.  

  • Represent Bravus externally where required including to industry associations, vendors and other stakeholders.  

  • Assist with other business requests related to the environment as they arise such as reviews, media enquiries etc.  

  • Other duties as prescribed from time to time.   

Qualifications & Experience  

Essential: 

  • Tertiary qualifications (Degree) in environmental planning, science, engineering or equivalent  

  • A minimum 15 years of environmental industry experience  

  • Experience in an environmental role within the mining industry and/or construction sectors   

  • Computer proficient  

Desired: 

  • 15 years relevant industry experience including experience with approvals and planning for major projects  

  • Experience working in within the Queensland Coal Mining Industry   

  • Post Graduate Qualifications in a relevant discipline  

  • Experience in managing and contributing to environmental impact assessment for major project approvals    

  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and Local statutory planning and approvals legislation   

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills   

  • Proven ability to establish relationships with team members and an established external network   

  • Ability to motivate people to achieve an outstanding environmental outcome   

  • Previous use of electronic compliance tracking software
