About the role
Bathurst Regional Council is currently seeking a motivated and suitably qualified Spatial Analyst to join the Information Services team. The successful applicant will be working within the GIS Section to assist with the maintenance of Council's Geographic Information Systems and perform analysis work to add value to enhance the provision of service to Council staff and the greater Bathurst Community.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team of committed individuals who are seeking to implement the latest technology and practices to support a growing city in this very exciting era of technological change and disruption.
Working within this team you will be providing support and advice to staff at Bathurst Regional Council in their growing need for spatial information and data insights. The position will also require you to develop, in conjunction with key customers, interfaces and maps to assist in the visualisation of Council's spatial datasets. Candidates require tertiary qualifications applicable to GIS or Spatial Analysis, applicants nearing completion are encouraged to apply.
The expectation is that the successful applicant will be based at the Civic Centre in Bathurst.
Key Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications applicable to GIS or Spatial Analysis (or near completion)
- Demonstrated experience using, maintaining and supporting mapping software such as MapInfo, QGIS, IntraMaps, FME
- Experience using GIS databases and writing Microsoft SQL queries
- Experience or familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R
- Experience in a Windows Server environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a small, committed team
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence
Desirable
- Ability to create maps that clearly present complex spatial data to non-technical users.
- Experience using scripts or applications such as FME to automate processes or workflows.
- Ability to diagnose (hardware and software) problems.
- Experience with helpdesk and 2nd level support in relation to spatial software.
- Experience with maintenance of GIS cadastre and dealing with public regarding addressing issues.
- Understanding of Land Registry Services (LRS) such as Land Titling Systems, Certificates of Titles, plans type preferred.

This position requires a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug & alcohol screen.
Salary: $1,453.41 to $1,526.99 per week + 12 % super
Position Status: Permanent Full -Time
Hours of work: 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
