About the role
Bathurst Regional Council has a strong focus on community and economic growth for the Bathurst region and has a clear strategy to deliver infrastructure and services that meet the needs of the public.
The Media and Communications Officer plays an integral part in this strategy by contributing to and enhancing the corporate profile and reputation of the Council in line with our policies and strategies.
Working in a small team, you will have the unique opportunity to build and develop key relationships with a variety of stakeholders including the Mayor, Councillors, the Council’s General Manager, staff, media, government departments and community groups.
You will be responsible for identifying media opportunities and producing engaging content that will promote and raise awareness of Council, its role, priorities and achievements.
The role is diverse and varied and will draw on your extensive experience in developing and implementing communication and media strategies and ability to produce high quality content in a fast paced environment.
Key Requirements
- A Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field, with a minimum of five years experience in communications, media, journalism or related industry
- Extensive experience in the development and implementation of communications and media strategies, and in producing high quality content for traditional media and other platforms
- Experience in providing advice to internal stakeholders on media strategy
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- A current Class C NSW Drivers Licence

This position requires a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug and alcohol screen.
Salary: $1,568.10 to $1,730.97 per week + superannuation
Position Status: Permanent Full Time
Hours of work: 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
