About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Animal Attendant to supervise operations at the Bathurst Animal Rehoming Centre. Applicants will have a minimum of 3 year’s experience in a similar role and be motivated to maintain high standards of animal welfare. The Senior Animal Attendant will be required to supervise the day to day operations of BARC, and monitor and assist other staff undertaking duties such as cleaning and disinfection of kennels and feeding and care of impounded animals. Experience in handling dangerous or aggressive dogs is a minimum requirement of the position.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a high standard of customer service, assisting customers both at the facility and on the telephone in release or adoption of animals. Intermediate computer skills in MS Office applications and an ability to use online databases and case management software (supported by on the job training) are essential requirements of the role. Demonstrated experience in the supervision and mentoring of staff will be highly regarded.  

The position will be offered as a fixed term permanent part time secondment. Candidates must be available to work on weekends and public holidays on a rostered basis.

Key Requirements

  • Certificate III in Animal Care and a minimum of three year’s experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage difficult customers and resolve conflict between stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the supervision and training, leading and motivating of staff
  • Organised and able to allocate resources to achieve adopted customer service standards
  • Solid working knowledge of the Companion Animals Act 1998 and NSW Pet Registry
  • Demonstrated experience in handling aggressive dogs and cats within a shelter
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing the cleaning and hygiene practices applicable to animal shelters
  • Intermediate level user of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and internet-based programs and a high level of written and oral communication skills
  • Authorised identifier (NSW accreditation), or ability to become authorised within 6 months of appointment

This position requires a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug and alcohol screen.

Salary: $1,128.86 per week + super + Adverse Working Conditions Allowance Level 2 as required

Position Status:  Fixed-term Part-time (12 month contract)

Hours of work: 30.4 hours per week. Fixed weekdays to be negotiated with successful candidate with weekend work on a rostered basis required.
