Council is committed to continually increasing our internal capability. A permanent full time opportunity now exists for an experienced governance professional to join our governance team.

As the Governance and Strategy Team Leader, you will oversee the implementation and review of governance and risk management policies and procedures, lead and embed a positive risk management culture and practices across the organisation and influence organisational-wide business planning.

As a key player in Council, the Governance and Strategy Team Leader will be instrumental in supporting our Manager Corporate Governance to ensure that Council achieves its complex legislative responsibilities. Aiming to enhance the organisation’s appreciation and understanding of good governance, you will offer expert advice to bolster legislative compliance, governance standards, and best practices.

To be successful in this role, you must be a self-starter who can work autonomously, have excellent attention to detail and be able to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, as well as a proven ability to communicate clearly and strongly. 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement governance frameworks and policies, including in risk, compliance, probity and audit
  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability and best practice quality governance
  • Identify, analyse, and respond to risks to the sector
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation through effective and efficient regulation
  • Lead the development of Council’s corporate strategies, business planning and annual report
  • Assist with the continuous improvement activities of the internal and external audit processes.

Key Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in governance, or related field with 4 or more years’ subsequent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and public sector policies and practices relating to risk management, audit and governance
  • Demonstrated effective team management and leadership experience to achieve agreed outcomes
  • Proven ability to review, analyse and implement processes in accordance with regulatory and industry standards to achieving best practice
  • Possess a high level of written and verbal communication skills that result in effective and appropriate communication with a broad range of people internal and external to the organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to work under limited direction to improve and enhance processes and practices, and achieve high quality results by taking a shared responsibility for setting priorities, organising workloads and meeting prescribed or self-imposed deadlines in a team environment
  • Proven experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, including advanced word processing skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to recognise and respect confidentiality and privacy matters, including the possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate
  • Hold a current NSW Class C drivers licence.

Salary: $1,826.10 - $1,918.47 + superannuation 

Position Status: Permanent Full-time

Hours of work: 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
