About the role
Bathurst Regional Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Ranger team. Council’s Rangers must provide a high standard of customer service to our community while effectively implementing Council’s regulatory functions. The position is predominantly responsible for ensuring certain controls are implemented under the Companion Animals Act 1998, Local Government Act 1993, Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, and Australian Road Rules 2014.
The position is full time (38 hours per week) with an RDO every 3 weeks. The position is required to work on weekends and be available to perform on call duties on a rostered basis.
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated competence in animal care and control and dealing with difficult customers. Other tasks include parking enforcement, management of unattended property and unhealthy land customer requests. Some tasks are physically demanding and a reasonable level of physical fitness is required. Flexibility and willingness to work as a part of a team are critical to the role.
Key Requirements
- Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or a minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in a regulatory role
- NSW Class C driver’s licence
- Demonstrated capacity to handle companion animals and livestock
- Ability and experience in carrying out investigations and collecting evidence from a variety of sources to use in determining a suitable course of action
- Organised and able to manage competing deadlines and complete forms, records, and other written documents to the required corporate standard
- Solid working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Companion Animals Act 1998, Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, Australian Road Rules 2014, and associated regulations
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, including demonstrated conflict resolution, consultation, negotiation, and customer service skills
- Basic to Intermediate user of MS Word, Outlook, and internet
- Demonstrated ability to attend after hours callouts in a timely manner and participate in an on-call roster which includes weekend work.

This position requires a national police check and a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug and alcohol screen.
Salary: $1,411.08 to $1,482.51 per week + superannuation + on-call allowance (when applicable)
Position Status: Permanent Full-time
Hours of work: 38 hours per week with a RDO every third week and on-call duties on a rotating roster.
