What is required? 

Facilities Assistant -  

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to support the upkeep of our community facilities through high-quality cleaning and presentation. This role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness across multiple venues, including bathrooms, floors, windows, and public areas, as well as restocking supplies and managing waste disposal. The position also involves setting up and packing down rooms and sports courts, reporting maintenance issues, and delivering courteous customer service. 

 A preferable candidate will have:

  • Previous cleaning experience in institutions (e.g. hospitals, aged care), shopping centres, or accommodation (motels/hotels).
  • Consistency and reliability in following daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning routines.
  • Physically fit, willing to get in and do the work thoroughly, not afraid of the less pleasant tasks.
  • Friendly and agreeable in manner, but focused on the job (not overly chatty).
  • Reliable and available to potentially fill in at a moment’s notice.

VIEW POSITION DESCRIPTION

Start Date:

Monday 3 November 2025

Start Time/hours of work:

Shifts could be weekday and weekend, and commence as early as 5.00am, will be required to have availability over the busy summer holiday period.
This position will be a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Address/ site:

Across Council’s community facilities – Ballina, Lennox Head, Alstonville (work vehicle provided for travel). Base will generally be at the Ballina Indoor Sports Centre (Cherry Street, Ballina)

Essential

  • Driver licence
  • Willingness and ability to undertake cleaning duties of public facilities, including toilets.
  • Physical ability to assist with set up and pack down of furniture
  • Customer Service skills
  • Satisfied with relief work only with no expectation of consistent/ongoing work
  • Immunisation against Hep A and B
  • A positive attitude that aligns with Council’s CARES (creative, accessible, respect, energetic and safe) values.

Desirable

  • Experience in commercial cleaning and/or cleaning of public amenities.
