What is required? 

Communications Officer to support Council’s corporate communication and media activities by ensuring alignment with guidelines, fostering cross-department collaboration, and producing high-quality content across digital and traditional channels. Skilled in managing websites and digital platforms to optimise content quality and user experience, and in maintaining a strategic content calendar to ensure timely and consistent communication 

  VIEW POSITION DESCRIPTION

Start Date:

Start Time/hour of work:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. 14 - 21 hours per week.

Address/ site:

BSC Administration Building | 40 Cherry Street, Ballina

Anticipated engagement period:

Ceasing Tuesday 30 June 2026 (approx. 6 months)

Candidate specifics:

 

 

Essential

  • Behaviour that positively demonstrates Council’s values of:  creative, accessible, respect, energetic and safe.
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the communications industry with a focus on achieving greater community engagement.
  • Demonstrated high level experience in producing copy across all media, including the ability to adapt writing style to suit a wide range of printed and online publications and target audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively to produce new ideas and concepts.
  • Proven high level oral and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively and communicate with community groups, committees and other levels of government.
  • Demonstrated high level computer literacy with experience in the Microsoft Office suite and other corporate software.
  • Sound time management skills including the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.

Desirable

  • Local Government experience.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to scope, develop and deliver projects.
  • Experience in community education/engagement.
  • Proven graphic design skills and experience.
