The Opportunity
Bega Valley Shire Council are seeking applications for the Communications Trainee position funded under the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant. The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant is an Aboriginal Initiative funded by Equity Programs, Skills and Workforce in NSW Department of Education.
We have an opportunity for an ambitious individual to assist in the preparation of materials that promote the operations and activities of Council through various internal and external communication mediums, including website content and graphic design support.
As a Communication Trainee, you will assist with identifying and drafting written material for inclusion in communication plans and campaigns, online, newsletters, media releases and enquiries, flyers, social media, publications and other promotion/marketing material. You will undertake academic studies at vocational level and apply theoretical learnings to workplace activities in order to reinforce learnings.

About You
We are seeking an individual from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage who has completed their Higher School Certificate (Year 12) and has a current NSW Class C Drivers Licence. Applicants aged 16 years and over are eligible to apply.
You will have the following skills and experience;
- Entry level skills or experience (or willingness to learn) in graphic design.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite as well as use of social media.
- Entry level skills in website content delivery (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to take direction, instruction and work within an organised team environment.
Benefits
This is a grant-funded, fixed-term, full time position working 35 hours per week for a period of two (2) years.
The total remuneration package for this position commences at $28,071.68 to $48,187.78 gross per annum, comprising of:
- $482.00 to $827.40 per week base salary
- $57.84 to $99.29 per week superannuation (calculated at 12%)
Remuneration for this position is dependent upon the age and level of schooling achieved by the successful candidate.

Under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, Bega Valley Shire Council is granted an exemption from sections 8 and 51 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 to designate trainee positions to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons only.
