About the opportunity
Carpentaria Shire is located in the southeastern region of the Gulf of Carpentaria and covers an area of almost 65,000km2. The region is uniquely placed to offer residents and visitors' opportunities and experiences in lifestyle, holidays, employment and investment opportunities, with a friendly, laid-back lifestyle.
With a population of approximately 2,500, the Carpentaria Shire landscape ranges from vast inland plains to mangrove forests, deltas and sultans along the picturesque coastal areas of the Gulf. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and process driven specialist to refine and improve the existing asset management system valued over $200M within Council. The role will be responsible for the integrity of asset data and reporting, enabling Council to deliver full life cycle management of our built infrastructure and fleet assets including buildings, roads, pathways, open spaces, drainage, signage and plant and equipment (fleet).
About you

You will possess strong financial knowledge to manage expenditure, develop profitable plant and fleet hiring charges, often within state and federal funding arrangements, while shaping the definition and delivery of asset renewal and maintenance programs, assessing whole of life cost implications. To assist your success, you will have access to specialist service providers including consultants, contractors and temporary staff, but will be comfortable working autonomously in an individual contributor role.
As a proven experienced asset specialist, you will have knowledge of relevant acts, legislation, Australian Standards, local laws and codes of practices concerning the development of infrastructure within the local government environment. You must have excellent interpersonal skills, including a high level ability to negotiate and consult on complex matters and provide technical advice and community information.
In order to support your successful transition, we’re ideally looking for someone who meets most of the below criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent related industry experience
- Proven capability in autonomously managing a large asset registry, preferably in council, or a similar scoped public/private enterprise
- Experience in local government (desirable)

- Experience and capability in contributing to strategic planning, analysis and reporting
- Ability to make recommendations on asset refurbishment and renewals, in line with asset profitability and return on investment
- Project/program management experience, with a track record of delivering on time and within budget
- Strong user experience with asset management programs such as SynergySoft, or equivalent
- Exposure to mobile, fleet and fixed/built assets and necessary routine maintenance schedules
- Ability to monitor data integrity and manage input across systems
- Professional and engaging personality, able to liaise and collaborate effectively with internal staff, key stakeholders, contractors, consultants, government agencies and community

- Relocation assistance available in accordance with Council's Relocation Policy
- Vehicle for work and limited private use within the Council region
- Six weeks' annual leave per year
- Option for nine day fortnight with RDO and a newly negotiated 37.5 hour work week
- Focus on continuous learning and professional development opportunities
