We have an opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join Cement Australia's largest site in Gladstone on a part-time basis for a 12 month period.
Working in a small team of Laboratory professionals, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the quality control for the Gladstone operations and ensuring equipment and solutions are properly maintained to meet accreditation requirements. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a positive attitude, takes accountability for their work and likes to demonstrate initiative around quality and continuous improvement.
About the role:
Our laboratory performs testing for the construction industry. As a member of the team, you will rotate through different stations at various intervals to safely complete routine testing and analysis. This can include manual testing of various products as well as chemical analysis. Safety is a priority and you would be expected to not only comply but contribute to a safe work environment.
Reporting to the Laboratory Team Leader, key components of the role include:
- Comply with and participate in an environment that promotes safety
- Carry out routine testing of cement, concrete and related products
- Conduct non-routine testing of cement, concrete and related products
- Calibration and maintenance of equipment
- Housekeeping within the laboratory
- Conduct analysis as part of investigations
- Interpret data generated and analyse and solve technical problems in conjunction with Team Leaders
Roster/hours
This is a part-time maximum-term opportunity for a 12 month period, job-sharing with another part-time team member (we are flexible for the role to commence pre or post Christmas). Days and hours per week will be flexible depending on both parties preferences but will likely be 2-3 days per week. The laboratory operates Monday to Friday, including some on-call after hours support one week per month. Typical working hours are 8.30am - 4.30pm, with some degree of flexibility on start and finish times. There is also an opportunity to undertake full time hours for a few months, before moving to part-time hours, if interested.
About you:
- A Cert IV in Laboratory Techniques or other related discipline
- Proven experience in a Laboratory role within construction, heavy industrial, manufacturing or mining environment
- Ability to analyse and solve technical problems and interpret data
- Knowledge of NATA rules and regulations
- Knowledge of the quality management system ISO 9001 & ISO 17025 (desirable)
- XRF experience (desirable)
- An understanding of laboratory instrumentation will be highly regarded
- Good level of computer literacy, i.e. Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in report writing (preferred)
- You will also be available for on-call after hours support one week per month, which includes 2-3 hours work onsite on a Saturday
